Carbon Monoxide

A toxic gas, it only survives in its pure form for a short time before naturally converting to Carbon Dioxide, the best known greenhouse gas. Diesel engines produce less Carbon Monoxide than petrol equivalents, and catalytic converters reduce that even further often by as much as 90%. Use of biodiesel in older cars can reduce Carbon Monoxide emissions although once again that benefit is unlikely to be translated at any significant level in more modern systems.
