Our Ethical and Environmental Principles
We are committed to the following principles in our promotion of biodiesel:
- To supply excellent quality fuel that meets the relevant British and
European Standards e.g. European Standard EN 14214 for pure biodiesel.
- To supply biodiesel at an acceptable and sustainable price
- To always supply biodiesel derived from renewable feedstocks. Our preference
is UCO (used cooking oil) because the reduction in carbon dioxide emission
is greater than for virgin oil. We are strongly opposed to GM agriculture
when applied to non-food crops and virgin palm oil due to its impact on
deforestation
- To always source biodiesel from vegetable oil rather than animal fats
or palm oil although there are likely to be traces of animal products
in used cooking oil
- To support our members with any technical or other information to enable
their confident use of biodiesel
- To support a local rather than global economy by minimising our own ecological
footprint
- To work with other organisations towards improving local air quality,
Greenhouse Gas Emissions and true sustainability
- To promote other ways of reducing emissions and impacts from motorised
transport
- To support the grassroots network of suppliers and other enterprises
also working with the highest environmental and ethical standards
- To raise awareness of the need to adopt a more sustainable model of transportation,
that supports local economies, improves air quality and lessens climate-change
gas emissions
- To foster and support the principles and concept of co-operation, to
support the co-operative movement, and to involve our members in co-operative
principles and management practices
- To maintain an open and transparent approach to our practice of biodiesel
use and promotion ensuring that our environmental and ethical principles
remain at the heart of our operations
