If you are using Basic 5 (B5) there are absolutely no issues with the servicing and maintenance of your car, just continue as normal and adhere to the manufacturer’s schedule.

If you decide to use a blend of B20 and above certain precautions are sensible. Biodiesel is an excellent system cleaner and has the ability to dissolve old sludge and gums that accumulate in your fuel tank and lines over time. The loosened deposits will be carried along to your fuel filter which will need replacing within a few weeks of changing over to the new fuel. Replacement is quick and inexpensive, so it is worth doing a couple of times, in quick succession. Green Gold Biodiesel will offer fuel filter changes, line checks and general servicing in house at very competitive rates, including e mail reminders should you forget when they are due.

There are benefits for your car from the swap to biodiesel, the cleansing effect outlined above will also help remove old gummy deposits on your injectors, particularly in vehicles which have covered more than 60.000 miles, resulting in a more efficient spray pattern which will help to reduce smoke (a real benefit for older vehicles at MOT time) and probably give a slight boost to both power and fuel consumption. Biodiesel is also an efficient lubricant which will ease the strain on pumps caused by the reduction in sulphur in normal diesel, and even at the basic blend of B5 this can be quite an advantage.
