Which Biodiesel Blend should you use in your diesel vehicle?

Green Gold Biodiesel’s Guidelines

UNDER WARRANTY
If you are fortunate enough to own a new vehicle, it will have some sort of warranty or guarantee from the manufacturer. These are normally for 12 months and carry a mileage limit, but some may be longer. All vehicle makers will stand by their warranty for fuel meeting European standard EN590, which includes biodiesel at a 5% mix (B5), other blends are usually dismissed with a statement that their use will “invalidate” your guarantee.
Under UK law, the warranty, which is essentially a contract between buyer and seller, is not pre agreed by both parties and so is covered by a test of “reasonableness” under the Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999, which means it is likely that only the fuel system could be excluded from any guarantee, rather than the whole cover being discarded simply for using higher blends of biodiesel. Any dispute though, would be subject to legal action to enforce, so unless you are particularly determined to access anything above B5, we would recommend adhering to that limit until the warranty period has expired.

OUT OF WARRANTY
The percentage of biodiesel which you can use in your car is dependant on the age of the vehicle (engine) how old it is, as newer types of engine technology combined with anti-pollution equipment fitted may be a limiting factor.

Vehicles Manufactured Pre-1995
We would recommend an upper limit of 50% (B50). With vehicles of this age it is possible, although unlikely, that there may still be some seals in the fuel line made of natural rubber. Lines should be checked after a few fill ups to check their integrity, and replaced if there are any signs of leakage. This should be an inexpensive process and we will be able to offer the service in house.

Vehicles Manufactured 1995 - 1999
These should all be fine on B50 as above (pre 1995) unless you own a Fiat made after 1997, which may be limited to B5. We can offer advice once we have your model information.

Vehicles Manufactured 2000 - 2002
Except some VW group vehicles, which include Audi, Skoda and some Seats, which can use B50, we generally recommend a B30 (30%) blend for this vehicle group.

Vehicles Manufactured Since 2002
Except Citroen / Peugeot which can use B30, we generally recommend B5 for this vehicle group.

These recommendations are based on the best technical information available to us at the time of publication and may be modified as and when further relevant information becomes available; any relevant changes will be notified to members.

Once you have decided on the blend that is most suitable for your vehicle, we suggest starting off at half that amount for the first few fills to make sure you are completely happy (we are sure you will be) then move up.

We will happily supply members with B100 should that be their wish, but they must recognise that they would be operating outside our guidelines.
